About NSS

The overall aim of NSS is to give an extension dimension to the higher education system and orient the youth students to involve in the community service during their study in the educational institutions. The reason for the formulation of this objective is to give general realization to all the students of college, who have a tendency to get alienated from the village and slum masses which constitute the majority of the population of the country. The educated youth who are expected to take the reins of administration in their future and the their interaction with the common villagers and slum dwellers will expose them to the realities of life and bring about a change in their social perception. It also helps to develop the personality of NSS volunteers through community service. Hence all NSS activities provide an opportunity to involve the volunteers in community service.

Rules and regulations

A volunteer must work for 120 Hours and has to spend time in REGULAR CAMPING PROGRAMME and SPECIAL CAMPING PROGRAMME. A volunteer must be acquainted with the basic of NSS Programme . He/ She must spend 20 Hours for the orientation through lecturers, discussions, field visits and Audio visuals etc. The volunteers have to spend 30 hours (not exceeding) in the projects undertaken for the benefits of the institution and students concerned such as tree plantation, Awareness programme on Drug abuse, AIDS awareness, Campus cleaning etc. and 70 Hour must be utilized in Community service on the projects and adopted village.

Enrollment Process and Status

To motivate the volunteers to enroll themselves in NSS, a meeting is organized among the newly admitted students within one month to orient the new students and inform them about NSS Programmes, activities and achievements. After that a notice for enrollment of students is circulated in the notice board and the students are selected from observation of their service–minded approaches and extracurricular activities.

Opportunities

NSS volunteers who have completed 240 hours of regular activities in the period of 2 years and attended one Special camp will be issued an NSS Certificate by Utkal University. They may be Honoured at university level for their excellent work in NSS. They may also get certificate and award from university, state and national level for their outstanding volunteerism.
